Great Glen Way Saturday 15 - Wednesday 19 August

On Saturday 15 August 6 walkers assembled in the grounds of Inverness Castle ready to start their 5 day walk along the 73 mile Great Glen Way from Inverness to Fort William.

After the usual meet and greet with their fellow walkers and introductions from Event Manager Susan Inglis and Guide Tim Francis the group set of on their first day at 10.00am after the obligatory team picture at the offical start point.

The weather was overcast yet dry, which was particularly welcome after the torrential rain 24 hrs earlier when 26mm fell in Glasgow alone in a matter of hours.

The group's first day would see them cover the 16 mile stretch from Inverness to Drumnadrochit and their first sight of Loch Ness.

It was a long hard first day but the group eventually reached Drumnadrochit at 6.45pm in the evening, tired and weary but happy to have conquered their first day.

Day 2.
Today the group successfully completed a further 16 miles as they made their way South to Invermoriston.

Some of the group are now suffering from a few blisters however spirits remain high.

The weather was fine yet again although there was a threat of rain during the morning which luckily came to nothing.

Day 3.
It was a rather damp start to day 3 along the Great Glen Way however the weather quickly improved to give a fine walking day.

The group are certainly getting well into their stride and completed the 13 mile section from Invermoriston to Aberchalder in record time.

As group finished this section of the walk in such a fast time they decided to walk on and completed the first part of day 4.

With over 45 miles of the 73 miles now completed they are now on the homeward stretch.

Day 4.
It was damp yet again as the group set off however conditions quickly improved and they enjoyed another fine day along the Great Glen Way. Today the group covered the section from Aberchalder on the outskirts of Invergarry to Gairlochy arriving at around 3.30pm.

The group have found a really good pace and are making excellent ground.

Perhaps it is the thought of going to the Canal Boat this evening for dinner which is always a highlight of the walk for participants that's making them walk so fast.

With that it mind they will no doubt make Fort William, their final destination by early afternoon tomorrow (Wednesday).

Day 5
The final day unfortunately started in the rain and this continued for the rest of the day however spirits were high and the group successfully completed the walk at 2.30pm in the afternoon.

All the aching legs and blisters were soon forgotton as the group reflected on their achievement over the preceding five days which saw them cover a 73 miles in toal and more importantly raising valuable funds for their chosen charity.

WELL DONE TO EVERYONE ON A GREAT EFFORT FROM THE CHARITYTREK TEAM.

PS: THE PICTURES WILL BE POSTED ONTO THE GALLERY SECTION SHORTLY.
