Hebridean Odyssey Cycle 28 May - 2 June 2009

Hebridean Odyssey Cycle 28 May - 2 June 2009 - Click for larger version On Thursday 28 May 7 cyclists left Glasgow to begin their journey to Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides to take part in the Charitytrek Hebridean Odyssey Cycle from the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse to Castlebay on the Island of Barra.

With myself (Ian Glassey) acting as Event Manager we also had Andy Mason as our support cyclist accompanying the group and Martin Russell driving the support van and looking after the bike maintenance.

On arrival in Stornoway we were met by Andrew Siddons another participant who had flown in earlier in the day and Bob Ferguson a Charitytrek regular who was also going to cycle with the group giving us 10 cyclists + support team.

During the four day cycle the group was able to see Scotland at its best as they cycled through Lewis, Harris, Berneray, North Uist, Benebecula, South Uist, Eriskay and finally Barra.

The weather was absolutely superb throughout the duration of the event and despite having to contend with severe head winds on day 2 the group successfully completed their goal with only minor aches and pains.

Charities benefitting from the groups efforts include the Fishermen’s Mission and The Jennifer Trust.

My thanks to everyone taking part for making it such an enjoyable 6 days and well done for such a great effort.

For anyone who likes rugged coastal scenery, remoteness of the Scottish Islands and an abundance of wildlife this is a must for you.

The dates for 2010 are 19 - 24 August 2010.
